RED BULL CATWALK STUDIO X FRED BUTLER SS13
Fred Butler showcased her undeniably unique style in a live presentation of her Spring / Summer 2013 collection. Working with the Red Bull Catwalk Studio Fred Butler and music producer Two Inch Punch collaborate on an original track, “A Bee In My Bonnet”, the soundtrack to this alluring fashion film. Conjuring luxury and richness, director Elisha Smith-Leverock evokes a life within the hive that brings the viewer into a world of honeycomb shapes and full on gold.
Crackling, buzzing and humming fills the soundtrack of this season’s collection inspired by bees. Latex and rubber undergarments collaborated by William Wilde join motifs of daisies and geometric shapes bringing together the beauty of the organic and the mechanic. The film embodies the free spirited nature of Fred Butler’s designs where luxury meets whimsy and new levels of creativity are explored. Fred Butler calls back to her previous piece for Kim Howells’ “House Of…” project with heavily embroidered gold-work and patchwork hexagons creating a motif of different shapes. The designer’s quirky aesthetic takes on a new approach this season with styles that take reference from street and sportswear whilst keeping it soft and feminine. Gold on gold is the palette of choice for this celebration of creativity, and a “Hip Hop Honey Bee” being the muse behind the collection. Bumblebee backpacks, bee-stinger bags, and daisy chain accessories echo the theme of the collection with a collaboration from Rosy Nicholas contributing statement footwear in art-deco architectural styles.

In support of the declining number of Urban Bees, Fred Butler works with The Bumblebee Conservation Trust on a specially designed key ring that can be purchased through the designer’s blog and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s website with all proceeds going to the trust.
